Form & Material Study
Design Research, MDES Case StudyForm & Material Study
A participatory case study that explores forms and materials that best trigger memories and enable play and storytelling. Many participants shared that the absence of color and printed identifiers helped them project their memory onto the prompts in front of them. For some, the materiality of the object such as size, texture, weight were key factors in triggering memories.
Prompts that resemble things of the past intrigued participants to strongly reminisce their past stories and brought a sense of nostalgia, which was then commonly empathized by others.
